China, one of the world’s largest consumer of plastics, announced its plan to ban single-use plastics. Single-use and non-degradable plastic bags will be banned across the country by 2022.

Over the next few years, China plans to phase out the use of disposable plastics such as plastic cutlery, plastic courier packages and plastic straws.

The bans on plastic consumer items like bags, cups, straws, and whatever else may only divert attention from developing real solutions that actually tackle the problem of plastic waste in oceans.
