Originated in Japan, “cute culture” has been steadily gaining popularity in China. It refers to a pop culture phenomenon that sees young people infatuated with cute characters, toys, foods, games and fashions.
“萌文化”源于日本,目前在中国越来越受到欢迎。它是指一种年轻人迷恋可爱的角色、玩具、食品、游戏和时尚的大众文化现象。
The rise of “cute culture” reflects a deeply ingrained sense of loneliness and people’s need for “company.” Watching cutesy videos or buying cute products are a way of creating “company.”
“萌文化”的兴起,反映了一种根深蒂固的孤独感和人们对于“陪伴”的渴求。观看“萌”态十足的视频和购买“萌”产品,会让人感到有人陪伴自己。
Cute culture is a way of worshipping youth — cute characters by definition have babyish features: big heads and eyes, fat cheeks and charmingly naivety.
“萌文化”体现了一种对青春的崇拜 – “萌”的角色被定义为具有婴儿的特征:脑袋大、眼睛大、脸颊胖嘟嘟,憨态可掬。
